Founded in 1973 by an Emiri decree, the College of Education (CED) was the first higher education institution in the State of Qatar. CED adheres to its educational principles and insightful vision to prepare graduates to contribute to Qatar’s development and growth.
CED is home to two academic departments and three undergraduate programs -- Primary, Secondary and Special Education. Each undergraduate program includes a number of concentrations. In addition, the College offers three Masters programs -- Educational Leadership, Special Education, and Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, in addition to several high diploma programs.
In 2012, CED achieved accreditation from the International Recognition in Teacher Education (IRTE) agency. This was followed by full accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in 2015 that is extended until 2023.
CED is continually involved in various external and internal funded research projects. Through its Educational Research Unit, the College is committed to achieving research excellence and to building capacity by providing students and faculty with a supportive environment for research and scholarship. Through its National Center for Educational Development (NCED), CED plays an important role in developing and improving the quality of education provided in the State of Qatar. The College also contributes through its Early Childhood Center to early childhood education and research.
