Qatar University College of Law might sound – at first sight – very young. Law, however, was first taught in QU 32 years ago – starting in 1990 – and it was in 2004 that the College became an independent College. Between 1990 and 2004, law was taught in the then law department of our sister College of Sharia and Islamic Studies.
Much has changed ever since. We now have three academic departments: the Private Law, the Public Law and the Legal Skills departments, and a research-based center, namely the Law & Development Centre as well as the well-established peer-reviewed journal, namely the International Review of Law (IRL), published by QU Press.
QU Law is the main national provider of high-quality legal education in Qatar. It is distinguished by having an elite group of law scholars and experts from different legal backgrounds. We offer 3 degrees, LLB, LLM, and PhD, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Legal Studies.
We are now roughly 85 faculty members and 2000 students with outstanding admin staff. The College has been accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) and the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) in France. In 2022, the College was ranked among the top 250 law schools in the world by the QS World University Rankings. We, also in 2022, moved to our state-of-the-art brand-new building with breathtaking moot court room.
To remain relevant with the legal education in an era of globalization and challenges, we are constantly reviewing our progress and plans. I will always be pleased to share these with you here soon.
We welcome you to stay in touch via our College emails and the social media channels (QULAWC at Twitter & Instagram). We equally welcome you to visit us in person in the new building I09.
I look forward to meeting you,
Dr. Talal Abdulla Al-Emadi
Dean of the College of Law
