The Biomedical Research Center (BRC) was established to serve as a model of excellence in interdisciplinary biomedical research that advances knowledge and enables novel biomedical discoveries to improve human health in Qatar and worldwide. Along with this vision, the center attach great importance to biosafety and biosecurity, and thus, it ensures the implementation of strict biosafety measures in its facilities in compliance with QU and international rules.
The center demands all researchers working in its facilities to read the biosafety guidelines and attend training courses provided by QU and the Center on a regular basis. Further, all researchers working at the center have to sign a consent form that indicates their awareness of biosafety rules and regulations before they start working in the labs.
The Center has appointed a specialized biosafety officer with duties, include, but are not limited to:
- Regular inspections to ensure that laboratory standards are firmly applied.
- Reporting any significant problems and violations of the QU Guidelines, and any significant research-related incidents or illnesses to QU environmental and safety, BRC director and principle investigator.
- Developing plans for handling accidental spills and personnel contamination and investigating laboratory accidents; Providing advice on laboratory security.
- Providing technical advice to Principal Investigators and researcher on research safety procedures.
