    Diploma in Secondary Education 

    The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Secondary Education is one of the teacher preparation diploma programs in the College of Education at Qatar University. The program provides instruction and field-based practicum for educators and other professionals committed to serving students at the preparatory and secondary stages. 

    The goal of this program is to prepare educators to teach the curriculum necessary for governmental schools in Qatar. Accomplishment of this goal will require competent, motivated teachers who will prepare children to achieve educational goals at the highest international standards. 

    This program consists of 30 credit hours taught in 2 semesters. Classes are field based, with students observing and practicing skills learned in the program courses. 

     

    The main instruction language is Arabic. 

     

    NOTE: 

    Only direct specialties of school subjects are accepted in Qatar's public schools (Islamic studies - Arabic language - social studies - biology - chemistry - physics - mathematics - English subject)

    Vision

    The vision of the Secondary Diploma program is to offer high quality, learning–centered education that serves to improve the teaching performance of candidates and to support the mission of Qatar University by preparing graduates who understand the importance and have the skills to promote academic achievement for all students, to promote education reform, and to promote ongoing research in education. 

    Mission

    The Secondary Education Diploma Program aims to prepare high skilled, motivated teachers to teach in Qatar’s Independent Schools and who will prepare secondary-level children to achieve educational goals at the highest international standards.

    Objectives

    This program seeks to support the vision of Qatar University by offering high quality, learning-centered education to candidates seeking teacher certification so that they may:

    • Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed for successful teaching.
    • Actively promote academic achievement for all students.
    • Plan and conduct student-centered, standards-based instruction.
    • Engage in ongoing research in education in Qatar by teaching and modeling inquiry.
    • Methodologies and data-informed instruction.

    Admissions & How to Apply

    All applicants to the Diploma in Secondary Education program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

    1. Completed a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country. 

    1. Achieved a minimum score of 5 in IELTS (Academic) or 45 in TOEFL iBT (for applicants to the English Concentration Only). 

    1. Successful completion of a discipline-specific content knowledge test with 80% at least. 

    1. Personal interview. 

    1. Successful completion of computer test

    How to Apply

    For the graduate studies, Qatar University has adopted a policy of non-discrimination on the basis of race, gender or religion. Qatari and international students are admitted on a competitive basis according to individual merit, as determined by the university. Also, Qatar University ensures that all its facilities are accessible to special-needs students. 
     
    Applications for admission are normally accepted only for the Fall Semester, admission are not available for Spring Semester.
