Research lies at the core of the Center for Law and Development, shaping its contributions to policy, capacity building, and national service. The Center serves as a focal point for interdisciplinary legal research aligned with the priorities of the Qatar National Vision 2030, Qatar's national research agenda, and the institutional research priorities of Qatar University. Through this alignment, the CLD ensures that its research activities respond directly to the country's evolving development needs while contributing to global legal scholarship.
The Center actively promotes research that addresses pressing national and regional challenges, including governance and the rule of law, economic diversification, sustainability and environmental protection, technological transformation, and social development. By adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the CLD positions law as a key enabler of progress across these sectors, generating insights that inform policy design, legislative reform, and institutional innovation.
A central objective of the CLD's research agenda is to attract competitive third-party funding from national and international sources. The Center supports collaborative grant applications that bring together faculty from the College of Law and other academic units across Qatar University, as well as external partners from government, industry, and international institutions. Through these efforts, the CLD strengthens research capacity, enhances cross-sector collaboration, and increases the impact and visibility of its research outputs.
