Advances made in scientific knowledge that benefit human and animal health were possible because of animal research. Humane use and care of Research animal is an ethical obligation that we highly value.
LARC is the only Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) animal facility (Vivarium) in the state of Qatar that provides controlled macro and micro-environment for Rodent laboratory animals. LARC closely monitor husbandry macro-environmental parameters (i.e temperature, humidity, light cycles, space, feed, water and bedding) to maintain in accordance with international standards for laboratory animal husbandry and care (Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals). In addition, LARC vivarium has modern design and sophisticated individually ventilated caging (IVC) system to ensure the ultra-hygienic housing condition. Sentinel animal program has implemented in animal rooms for Health surveillance. LARC has professional and experienced staff to provide husbandry and veterinary care to all the vivarium animals. The facility has restricted access control and animals rooms monitored through 24/7 CCTV surveillance. LARC provides support and services to faculty, researchers and graduate students at Qatar University, Sidra Medicine, Texas A & M, Anti-Doping Lab Qatar, Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar Biomedical Research Institute and Hamad Medical Corporation with the premier level of humane animal care.
Qatar University Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC) is a state of the art newly designed facility with a finely controlled environment to assure the standard husbandry and humane care and well-being of the animals. LARC is the first of its kind in Qatar that offers a great opportunity for scientist, faculty and research students to utilize specific pathogen free small laboratory animal as a valuable asset to research and demonstrate scientific data in the biomedical and medical fields such as studying biological processes, investigating the causes of diseases and testing new treatments and therapies.
