Inservice Teacher Training
The QRDI2030 and QNV2030 initiatives in Qatar prioritize empowering the national youth with technical competence and STEM dispositions to enhance the country's RDI talent sustainability. To achieve these goals, Qatar has progressively implemented research experience programs, including the "I am a Researcher" track by Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC). This program has provided national students with research opportunities and participation in international competitions like the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), where Qatar achieved its first accolade in 2019.
Recognizing the importance of nurturing the next generation of innovators, Qatar University plays a significant role in empowering students to reach their potential and contribute to societal and economic growth. The focus is on competency enhancement through innovation-driven research and skill development. Educators are adapting their teaching goals to inspire and guide students toward community development, leveraging informal learning programs like internships.
To expand the success of programs like "I am a researcher" across Qatar, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) collaborated with QUYSC to provide research methodology training to science teachers in public schools. The 1st cycle of the training program, launched at the beginning of the year 2023, witnessed participation from 17 science teachers from preparatory and secondary schools. It aimed to impact students by enhancing teachers' research capabilities and fostering 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.
The training program included hands-on research-integrated activities, systematic literature reviews using the PRISMA technique, and conducting research experiments. Teachers were trained to engage students in experiential learning, transferring knowledge and skills effectively. The program culminated with an adjourning ceremony in April 2023, attended by participating teachers, students, QUYSC research teams, and MOEHE representatives, marking its success in supporting Qatar's goals in education and research.
