Smart Energy Management in Sports Facilities at QU
Qatar University researchers are revolutionizing sports facility management with AI-powered automation. Their study, published in Applied Energy (2022), introduced a Neural Network-based Model Predictive Control (MPC) system for optimizing HVAC operations in sports halls. By integrating machine learning into building automation, the system enhances energy efficiency while ensuring top-tier thermal comfort and indoor air quality.
Key Findings of this research includes:
- Achieved up to 46% energy reduction in regular consumption.
- Improved occupancy recommendations for a healthier indoor environment.
- Neural Networks (NNs) outperformed other models with high accuracy (R = 0.99)
This research, supported by the Qatar National Research Fund and part of the SportE3.Q project, highlights QU's commitment to sustainable and smart sports infrastructure.
