    Distinguished Alumni


    Qatar University celebrates those alumni who have shown support and loyalty to their alma mater during the annual alumni reunion.

    Alumni who have received the award to date:

    CLASS - 1997

    HE Dr Eng. Saad Ahmed Ibrahim Al Mohannadi was appointed as the new President of the Public Works Authority Ashghal based on Emiri Decree No. 4 of 2017 as of January 4, 2017.

    HE Dr Eng. Saad Al Mohannadi began his engineering career after graduating from Qatar University in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He also received a master's degree from Qatar University in 2009. He received his doctorate in 2016 from France titled "Methods of Decision Making to Manage Mega Projects – a study for the Qatar Railways project" .

    HE Dr Eng. Al Mohannadi has worked for more than 19 years, during which he held several leadership and managerial positions in Qatar within the energy and transportation sector. He also held major roles such as Head of Control Center, Electrical Grid Planning Manager, Technical Affairs Manager at Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa). From 2011, HE Dr Eng. Al Mohannadi was the CEO of Qatar Railways Company, the company responsible for designing and developing the railway network in Qatar and then managing, operating and maintaining it once it is completed.

    CLASS - 2003

    His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs began his career as an Economics Researcher at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in 2003. He assumed many positions the last of which is the Director of Economic Affairs during the period from 2005 - 2009.

    In 2009, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affaires was appointed as the Director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Support Project 'SMEs'. He was also appomnted as Director of the Government and Private Sector Partnership Department at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce. In the same year, HE launched Qatar Enterprises, an organization that provides technical and financial support to SMEs. His policies have sought to foster economic diversification programs by attracting the Foreign Direct investment (FDI) to Qatar and promoting projects that contribute to the country's economic growth.

    In 2010, HE was appointed as the Secretary of the Emir's Personal Representative for Follow-up Affairs at the Emiri Diwan. He also served as the Vice Chairman of Qatar Mining Company. In 2011, he became the Chairman of the Executive Committee of SMEs Development Company, and he was elected as the Chairman of Aspire-Katara Investment Company. He was promoted ase undersecretary in 2012.

    In 2013, HE was appointed as Minster Assisstant for the International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His policies focused on promoting multifaceted cooperation, as well as the implementing of Qatar development and aid policy.

    Currently, his excellency chairs the board of directors at Qatar Fund for Development, and in 2014, he led the restructuring procees for this body. As well he promoted for directing support for the primary and secondary education, global health and economic development. He is a member of the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investment.

    CLASS - 1987

    Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani joined the Ministry of Information and Culture in 1987; he filled progressively various media posts within the ministry. Also, he participated in many training courses, seminars and media meetings in a number of Arab and non- Arab countries in the administration, press, and audiovisual media fields.
    Later he was appointed as the Media Affairs Director, then as Undersecretary Assistant for the Media Affairs in September 1992. After that, he was appointed as the Undersecretary for the Ministry of Information and Culture in 1995; then he became the Chairman of Al Jazeera Satellite Channel in 1996.

    Finally, he was appointed as Chairman of Qatar General Authority for Radio and Television in 1997; while retaining as Chair of the Board of Directors at (Al Jazeera Satellite Channel). As well, he is the Chairman of the Doha Center for Media Freedom since 2007. Sheikh Hamad has represented the State of Qatar in many Gulf, Arab and international meetings and conferences related to press and media.

    CLASS - 1977

    He worked as Associate Dean of the College of Sciences at Qatar University, and then as Dean of the College of Sciences at Qatar University. He was appointed President of Qatar University during the period of 1994 – 1999. In 2000, he became the President of Stenden Qatar – CHN Netherland University in Qatar. Also, he served as Faculty Senate Chair of Qatar University in 2007. Dr. Al- Noaimi is Chair of the Distinguished Foreign Schools Supervising Committee since September 2007. He is also Chair of the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue since May 2007, and the Chairperson of the Communitiy Colleges Steering Committee in Qatar since October 2008.

    Dr. Al-Noaimi worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Chemistry Department at Qatar University, then as a lecturer in the same Department. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Education and Science from Qatar University. He received his Master's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA in 1981, and then a PhD in Chemistry from the same university in 1983.

    CLASS - 1992

    Mr. Ajlan Al-Anzi worked at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, he has been promoted as Head of the Precious Metals Section. In 1995, he moved on to Qatar Petroleum to be in charge of (1, 2, 3 plants) at the Production Unit (Offshore Operations). In 1999, he moved to the Projects and Engineering Department as a planning engineer, and in the same year, he was seconded to work for Q-Chem project (Houston – the United States of America).

    In 2001, he was seconded to work for Dolphin Energy as Technical Manager, and he was promoted and became the Assistant Executive Vice President – Public Relations in the company.
    Mr. Al-Anzi currently holds a number of positions, he is a member of the International Project Management Association, a member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), a member of Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), a member of the World Gas Conference Advisory Committee (WPC), a member of the Distinguished Alumni Award Committee at Qatar University.

    Mr. Al-Anzi is the Chair of the Board of Regents at Qatar Girls Educational Complex, and was the Secretary General of Al Rayyan Club. 1988 - 2005.

    CLASS - 2006

    Buthaina Al Ansari is the Senior Director of Human Resources at Ooredoo. She has received a Qatar Business Women Award for her Qatarisation work at Al Rayan Investment. Using her degrees from universities in Qatar, London and Cairo, she founded and manages Qatariat, a company that specialises in helping Qatari women advance into the workforce within three elements, which are the Qatariat Training and Development, Qatariat Magazine, and the Qatariat Development Consultancy. Al Ansari is a board member at the Qatari Business Forum and Arab International Women Forum in London, UK. She has been named as one of the 100 Most Powerful Arab Women in 2012 and 2013 by Arab Business magazine. She's also been voted L'Officiel Qatar's most inspirational Arab woman of the year in 2012. Al Ansari received her MBA in strategic planning and business management from Qatar University in 2005.

    CLASS - 1986

    Mr. Abu Baker Al-Sai'ari has been involved in several positions of the Human Resources Department at Qatar Petroleum. He is a member of the Alumni Association Advisory Committee in Qatar University. Also, he is a member of the Qatar National Museum project for the energy and industry sector and co-chair of the Qatar Career Fair Advisory Committee.

    Mr. Al-Sai'ari participated in the preparation for a number of studies related to the strategy of training and development of human resources through the Supreme Council for Development Planning across the State of Qatar. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Arts from Qatar University in 1986.
