The Social, Cultural, and Psychological Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic
Within the span of less than two decades, humanity has grappled with three serious novel coronavirus disease outbreaks: SARS in 2002, MERS in 2012, and SARS-CoV-2 in 2019. On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the 2019-nCoV outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern and on February 11, 2020, it named the new virus COVID-19. On March 12, the WHO declared the outbreak a pandemic. Since then, life as we knew it has changed dramatically around the globe. As of May 16, 2020, there were close to 4.5 million confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 and more than 300,000 deaths worldwide. This disease outbreak has wreaked havoc in our daily lives over the past few months and deserves to be documented and closely examined. Hence, Qatar University Press is seeking chapter proposals for an edited book of approximately 12 chapters, tentatively titled The Social, Cultural, and Psychological Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
We are looking for original contributions that have not been published previously. We welcome contributions from social science and humanities scholars from around the world. National and international qualitative and quantitative research proposals are welcome. The book’s topics will target a broad audience, including policymakers, researchers, educators, college students, and health professionals such as nurses, physicians, psychologists, and social workers.
