    About Us

The Department of English Literature and Linguistics consists of four components: English Literature, Linguistics, Translation, and Writing. With our Department, the student can obtain a Major in English with concentrations in either Literature or Linguistics, as well as Minors in English and in Translation.

    Mission

The mission of the Department of English Literature and Linguistics is to provide quality, student-centred education that enables its students to cultivate and enhance their knowledge and understanding of English literature and linguistics. The learning and research environment equips students with the cognitive skills needed to use English effectively and creatively in various contexts, as well as general analytical and critical thinking skills. This will ultimately help our graduates meet the challenges of their professional careers, their community and national needs, in addition to being aware and appreciative of the language, literature, and cultures of others.

    • Relate the phenomenon of language to its social and psychological contexts.
    • Analyze critically literary genres: poetry, novels, drama, theory and criticism within their historical, social, and intellectual contexts.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of theoretical and practical methods in literature and linguistics.
