The black Qatari bisht considered as the unifying symbol for graduates. All graduates must adhere to wear the bisht at the graduation ceremony.

Specifications:

A black bisht embroidered with golden edges (zari). It is a traditional gown with two openings in order to put the hands through them, its length starts from the shoulder to the foot, and it can be obtain from the popular markets in Doha.

Instructions/Protocol on wearing the graduation gown:

The graduate must wear the bisht with a white gown, a white ghutra and an aqal; however, if he have a desire to wear it with the formal suit he must adhere to the following instructions:

  • Wearing a formal jacket in (navy blue-black).
  • Wearing a white shirt.
  • Wearing a (maroon) tie.
  • Wearing black (formal) shoes.
  • Wearing the Qatari bisht (black).

The main way to wear the gown:

The right hand should be placed inside the right opening of the bisht and remains outside for handshaking

While keeping the left hand inside to gather the edges of the bisht when moving and walking.

Graduation Gown Policies:

  • Graduates must commit to wear the graduation gown (the bisht) from the beginning of the ceremony until its end.
  • Graduates are not allowed to climb to the podium without wearing the graduation gown.
  • Graduates must adhere to the protocol by wearing a white gown, a white ghutra and an aqal, as mentioned at the top of the page.
  • Graduates must adhere to the protocol by wearing a formal suit as mentioned above in the approved formal suit protocol.
