The black Qatari bisht is considered the unifying symbol for graduates. It is mandatory for all graduates to wear the bisht during the graduation ceremony.
Description
The bisht is a black, transparent men's garment, meant to be worn over the traditional thob. The ensemble is completed with a white ghutra and agal. The agal is placed on the head over the ghutra. The bisht extends from the shoulders to the feet, is open at the front, sleeveless, and typically features intricate gold thread embroidery along the edges. The bisht has two openings to put the hands through them. The customary way to wear it involves placing the right arm inside the right side of the bisht, using it for greetings and handshakes, while the left arm remains inside to hold the edges when moving and walking. The bisht and head covering can be obtained from popular markets in Doha.
