Dr. Ahmed Bin Mohammed Yousuf Obidan (1948 – 2018) is a prominent member of the Shura Council in Qatar during the past two decades (1990 - 2017). Dr. Ahmed served as Director of the Office of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, the former Minister of Education, as well as one of the first founding pioneers of Al Jasra Cultural and Social Club and was on the board of directors for several years. Dr. Ahmed published a book in 1986 titled “Popular Proverbs in Qatar” and is the first book documenting popular proverbs in the Qatari society.
Dr. Ahmed Obaidan’s Library includes more than 20 thousand volumes that covers topics from literature, poetry, Sharia, jurisprudence, interpretations, history and others. The unique collection is donated to Qatar University Library to enrich the Qatari collection as well as the general collection. Titles include valuable books, periodicals ,and documents in many different fields of knowledge.
Dr. Ahmed Obidan's passion for research and books played a huge part in his life and this is highlighted in his rich library that his family generously donated to Qatar University Library.
