Why do we need external funding to support some of our students?

Some students who apply for financial aid have their applications rejected for many reasons such as high income, low academic standing, or there are insufficient Financial Aid resources. Therefore, the goal of these partnerships is to provide alternative solutions to help such students continue their education without interruption by transferring their applications to other external institutions, after getting each student’s permission. This external institution will then study the financial condition of their families and provide them with financial aid through specific agreed upon mechanism.

    The Application Process:

    • The student has to complete the online Financial Aid application form, and agree to transfer the application to the intended external party.
    • The student has to submit the required documents, depending on the intended External Funding Financial Aid Program, that explains his/her family’s financial condition.
    • In the event student charges are not paid in full or paid late by the sponsoring party, it always remains the student’s responsibility to pay all charges.
    • For more information regarding the conditions and required documents, you can visit the External Funding Aids webpage.

The process that the Student Financial Services Section follows to transfer the applications:

    • The Student Financial Services Section reviews the application and ensures its completion.
    • After selecting the shortlisted students for each external funding financial aid program, the Section contacts the external parties through official email to explain each student’s financial situation according to the agreed official procedures between the Section and the external party.
    • Add the student information to the transfer database and follow up on the application status with the external party to know the final decision.
    • Contact the rejected students with the External Party’s decisions and follow up with the related parties to finalize the payment process for the accepted students based on the agreed official procedures between the section and the external party.
    • The Student Financial Services Section handles the reception of tuition fees payment deferral electronic applications, through Banner Self-Service for the same semester in which the application is submitted based on certain conditions and procedures. This application is related to removing, temporary, the registration hold to allow the eligible student to register courses for next semester during the deadline specified for the intended service, and no later than two week before early registration date for next semester based on the academic calendar.
    • List of Applications will be presented to the Financial Aid Committee to study them and raise the recommendations of the eligible students to delay their tuition fees payment to the Vice President for student affairs for approval.
    • In case of application approval, the student will be contacted through QU e-mail to refer to the Treasury Office at Qatar University to complete the procedures related to securing financial guarantee for the university, by submitting a deferred cheque with the required amount and the guarantor’s signature.
