    Languages, Communication and Translation

    The Cluster of Languages, Communication and Translation is one of three clusters at the College of Arts and Sciences. It includes three academic departments and one learning center:

    1. The Department of Arabic Language and Literature
    2. The Department of English Literature and Linguistics
    3. The Department of Mass Communication and
    4. Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Center

    The Cluster offers to its students the following six BA programs:

    • Major in Arabic language and Literature – Female students.
    • Major in English Literature and Linguistics – Female students.
    • Major in Mass Communication – Male and Female students.
    • Minor in Arabic – Male and Female students.
    • Minor in Spanish – Female students.
    • Minor in French – Female students.
    • Minor in Translation – Female students.

    The cluster offers one MA program in Arabic Language, which includes three concentrations (language, Literature and Criticism, and Critical Comparative Studies). The cluster also offers Minor programs in Arabic Language, English Literature and Linguistics, and Mass Communication, to students from other departments across Qatar University.

    In an effort to foster intercultural communication, the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Center provides quality language instruction in line with the highest international standards, and offers a certificate of Arabic language proficiency.

    Our mission:

    Taking advantage of its varied linguistic and cultural landscape, the cluster aims to accomplish the following objectives:

    • Enhance the active learning environment offered at Qatar University to our undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Produce competent, highly trained, multi-skilled graduates, capable of engaging in a cultural and scientific exchange with the international community, at the same time as serving Qatar University and Qatari society.
    • Raise Qatar University’s research profile by establishing a high quality research environment and promoting research culture among faculty and students.
    • Meet the demands of Qatari society and the local job market by producing highly specialized, multi-skilled graduates.
