    M.A in Arabic Language

    General information

    Program Title: Master in Arabic Language and Literature

    Academic Degree: Master in Arabic Language and Literature with a specialization in linguistics, literature and criticism or comparative cultural studies.

    Program Routes: There are three routes: linguistics, literature and criticism or comparative cultural studies.

    Program period: Two years of full time study (including preparing the thesis). For part time study, the Department follows Qatar University rules.

    The program features:

    An afternoon program has no ties with any other program inside or outside the university. It employs lectures and seminars to introduce the new contributions in the field. In addition to the in -campus lectures the university support students through a blackboard system and Learning Management System. These systems facilitate communication outside classes and provide a space for sharing study materials. It also allows teachers to give notices, broadcast announcement, follow homework, discuss within groups and share the grades with the students. It also enable teachers to detect the plagiarism through programs such as Turnitin and Safe-assignment tools.

    Using plagiarism’s tools is obligatory for both teachers and post-graduate students. Lectures takes the form of discussions and dialogues. The students prepare a thesis that fulfils the requirements and rules of Qatar University.

    Graduation Requirements

    According to Qatar University’s system, the student must pass all the required courses and submit a thesis to graduate. The following requirements must be fulfilled before registering the thesis:

    1. Passing 75% of the required courses, with a grade that is above 80% (B in QU letters).
    2. Filling a thesis registration form.
    3. The committee of higher studies should review the form.
    4. The Department should inform the student with the its decision within a month.
    5. If the department approve the thesis registration the following regulations should be followed:
      • The thesis must be submitted within a year stating from the day of the committee’s approval. No extension is allowed unless there are exceptional cases and with the supervisor approval.
      • In addition to writing monitoring reports, the supervisor introduce a final report concerning the validity of the thesis fur discussion to the committee of higher education.
      • The Department form a discussion committee of three members (two members + the supervisor). One of the three members should be from outside Qatar University. The department council must approve the discussion committee.
      • If the thesis submitted at the end of the deadline, it must be discussed before the beginning of the next semester in order to avoid adding another year.
      • According to Qatar University’s regulations, the maximum duration of study in the program is four years.
      • The thesis pass if it gets Excellent or Very Good grades.
