    BS in Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering Program stresses the role of mechanical engineers in planning, creating devices and systems, and the skilful management of projects. Emphasis is placed on the generation, conversion, transmission and utilization of mechanical and thermal energy including the design, manufacturing, and operation of the related mechanical devices. The theme of education sharpens skills in communication, teamwork, and the usage of computers and information technology. Specific humanity concerns are also highlighted. The mechanical engineer should strive both to serve the needs of society without unduly damaging the environment and to produce devices and systems that use energy and material resources efficiently. The degree requirements are designed to meet international standards and all the essential fields of mechanical engineering needed in the Gulf countries. The Mechanical Engineering program covers the standard fundamental courses and then focuses on the following fields:

    1. Gas and Energy Systems
    2. Materials and Manufacturing Engineering
    3. Design and Maintenance Engineering
    4. Mechatronics and Automation
    5. Applied Mechanics

The gas and energy field prepares the student with the fundamentals of energy conversion from one type to another, as well as its transmission and utilization along with its environmental impact. The materials and manufacturing engineering field provides the background an engineer needs to select the optimum material for a given application, control the quality of products, and suggest ways of eliminating difficulties that may obstruct production. The design and maintenance engineering field integrates elements of the mechanical engineering program and utilizes modern computer methods to enable the engineer to execute the complete product design cycle from concept to disposal.

The Mechanical Engineering Program at Qatar University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Mechanical and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.;.

The accreditation ensures that the program meets the quality standards and produces graduates prepared to enter a global workforce.
