The main purpose of the unit is to offer and coordinate general engineering courses that constitute an essential area of all programs at the college and provide solid preparation for the engineering major core areas.
In light of the mission, objectives, and student learning outcomes of the College Academic Programs, courses were selected in the following areas: Programming, Skills and Ethics, Graphics, Probability and Statistics, Numerical Methods, Economics, and Electric Circuits.
The unit offers these courses along with related learning support to provide students with the fundamental engineering principles needed to understand the basics of, and to work with, modern technology, innovations and engineering practices.
The specific tasks of the unit include:
- Coordination between different departments and interfacing with CAS.
- Timetable and scheduling for the College of Engineering requirement courses.
- Overall assessment and dissemination.
- Periodical review and revision of the syllabi of the college requirement courses.
- Budgeting, recruitments and lab developments.
- ABET criteria implementation.
