    Research Planning and Quality Office

    Objective:

     

    To be the leading force in the development of the research and graduate studies strategy, the focal entity responsible for the ongoing planning and evaluation efforts of the Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) sector, facilitating the achievement of Qatar University’s vision.

     

    Functions and Responsibilities:

     

    RPQ houses within it the research planning, and the research quality sections. These sections work collaboratively to achieve the objective of RPQ.

    The main functions and responsibilities of each section are:

     

    Research Planning Section:

    1.  Initiate, develop, plan, and manage the RGS 5-year sectoral strategy.
    2. Establish and monitor the strategic measures, key performance areas, and key performance indicators of the RGS sector at both the institutional and sectoral levels.
    3. Conduct risk assessment of the RGS 5-year sectoral strategy.
    4. Cascade QU strategic and sectoral goals and ensuring alignment of the offices, and research entities under the RGS.
    5. Advise on the development of the operational plans for the offices and research entities under RGS.
    6. Review and monitor operational plans for the offices and research entities under the RGS and reporting their findings to higher management.
    7. Collect, prepare, analyze, and report research and graduate studies data to the institutional level.
    8. Build on the findings in the research annual reports and ensure inclusion within the RGS research entity plans.
    9. Advise on the burgeoning and reformed sectoral initiatives and endeavors in relation to the overall sectoral strategy and the plans of the individual offices/research entities in the RGS sector.
    10. Advise on policy and procedural changes related to planning improvements.

     

    Research Quality Section:

    1.  Review and evaluate the research output of all research entities in QU.
    2. Analyze and evaluate the performance of research entities in the RGS sector.
    3. Support the Research Entity Review Committee in their 5-year cyclical full review of research entities in QU.
    4. Report on QU research performance through combined use of research annual reports, research platforms (SciVal, Web of Science), and relevant data from offices in the RGS sector.
    5. Conduct operational and functional risk assessment for research entities in the RGS sector.
    6. Uphold quality management standards (e.g., ISO 17025 accredited methods and non-ISO methods).
    7. Develop and update the research equipment and research-related service inventory for all of QU.
    8. Advise on policy and procedural changes related to research quality improvements and operational/functional risk mitigation.
