Community service at the Center for Community Service and Continuing Education aims to find ways to cooperate with government and private non-profit agencies, to seek the distinguished competencies and experiences of faculty members in academic departments inside Qatar University, to seek help from distinguished individuals in the fields of community service inside and outside the State of Qatar, and to adapt these experiences and transfer them to individuals in the society.
The scope of community service work includes the following:
- Strengthening Qatar University's relationship with the community through communication with various social strata.
- Finding and creating opportunities for participation through academic curricula, and communicating with schools and social institutions.
- Cooperating with the relevant authorities in developing training and education programs for students and workers in schools and centers specialized in caring for special groups.
- Providing training courses and workshops in the field of basic general skills for the public.
- Designing and providing programs for people with special needs.
During the year 2022-2023, several courses were offered in the field of Community Service targeting people with special needs, their families and the group working with them. The agreement with Motif Consulting Company was renewed to organize courses, including the International License as a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) course. This course aims to empower parents, teachers, and workers working with people of disabilities to gain knowledge and prepare them to follow and exercise duties and responsibilities according to the internationally recognized scientific foundations for dealing with individuals with disabilities.
Community Service also organized communication skills development program, which aimed to enable parents, teachers and workers who care for special groups to acquire basic skills to deal and communicate with individuals with autism and develop a plan to support them to achieve their independence.
A workshop on intellectual disability, autism spectrum, and how to integrate them into society was also presented. It was one of a group of free programs offered in cooperation with the Shafallah Center. These awareness programs target students, their families and the community, which falls within the goals and vision of community service at Qatar University in the service of the community and its awareness, in addition to Offer free programs and low-cost courses. The Center for Community Service and Continuing Education, in cooperation with the Shafallah Center, provided several free awareness sessions targeting individuals and families of people with special needs.
Regional Network for Social Responsibility
In the interest of the Community Service and Continuing Education Center to continue to provide benefit to the community, the Center has cooperated with the Regional Network for Social Responsibility to provide a set of community courses in the field of sustainable development in order to qualify cadres capable of understanding sustainable development goals and their professional application. In addition, a specialist course for digital community initiatives In the field of social responsibility, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of aligning digital community initiatives with societal needs by adopting reliable professional tools was also offered.
Afif Charitable Foundation
The Community Service and Continuing Education Center signed an agreement with the Afif Charitable Foundation to offer several programs in which the financial expenses of the participants are covered by Afif Charity, in order to work on developing the individual skills of community members, especially those with limited income, students and job seekers. During 2022, programs offered were Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator where 50 participants attended.
Doha Institute for Studies
Out of the keenness of the Community Service and Continuing Education Center to contribute to the development of knowledge and skills development among members of Qatari society, and in partnership and cooperation with the Center of Excellence for Training and Consultations at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, the first set of educational and interactive courses and workshops (remotely) were offered free of charge to individuals. Courses in various fields and disciplines, including management of excellence in administrative work during pandemic, the equation of success in light of changes, modern techniques in managing stress under the pandemic and the program of communication skills in light of the pandemic were offered. The number of participants in these programs exceeded 500. In addition, Community Service provided a program Career leadership (Wajahi) for 40 participants.
Hand in hand initiative to serve the Qatari community
During 2022, the Community Service and Continuing Education Center launched the first version of the Hand in Hand initiative to serve the Qatari community, by including, statistical methods in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data in developing children's manual skills at home.
Pioneer Training Center
In cooperation with the Pioneer Training Center, an introductory workshop on cyber security was offered free of charge, with more than 70 participants attending from inside and outside Qatar. , Free training to test English language and Computer skills is also offered by the center in collaboration with the Community Service and Continuing Education Center.
