Workshop 1: Decarbonization and Energy Transition: Carbon Management Strategies for a Sustainable Energy Future

Decarbonization is crucial for mitigating climate change and limiting global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, as the Paris Agreement outlines.  This workshop will involve experts from industry, government, and academia to discuss the importance of and options for decarbonization.  Four experts will be invited to contribute through oral presentations and panel discussions. The main themes for discussion will include but not limited to the following:

  • Understanding the concept of decarbonization and its importance in mitigating climate change.
  • Exploring the role of renewable energy sources such as solar in reducing carbon emissions.
  • Highlighting the significance of improving energy efficiency in buildings, transportation, and industries to decrease carbon footprint.
  • Discussing the implementation of carbon pricing mechanisms like carbon taxes or cap-and-trade systems to promote emission reductions.
  • Showcasing innovative technologies like carbon capture and storage (CCS) and green hydrogen production as key solutions for decarbonization.
  • Understanding the importance of supportive policies and regulations at local, national, and international levels to drive decarbonization efforts.

Workshop 2: Digital Transformation in the Gas Industry

Digital transformation in the gas industry is a multifaceted approach to revolutionizing traditional practices by leveraging digital technologies. It encompasses various strategies to optimize operations, improve efficiency, and enhance customer experience. One key aspect involves the implementation of IoT sensors strategically placed along pipelines to monitor their condition in real-time. Additionally, artificial intelligence (AI) is crucial in predictive maintenance, allowing operators to schedule maintenance activities preemptively and further improving asset reliability and longevity. Furthermore, data analytics is instrumental in demand forecasting, enabling gas companies to anticipate fluctuations in demand more accurately. Moreover, the adoption of digital platforms enhances customer engagement and service delivery. Overall, digital transformation in the gas industry represents a paradigm shift towards a more connected, efficient, and customer-centric approach to operations. By embracing digital technologies, gas companies can stay ahead of the curve, drive innovation, and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market landscape. This workshop will involve experts from industry, government, and academia to discuss the importance of digital transformation in the gas industry.
