Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal

Dr. Alkhal is the Head of Infectious Diseases Division and Senior Consultant, Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeon in Ireland in 1989 after which he joined Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) as an intern. In 1991, he joined the Internal Medicine Residency training program at the University of Connecticut Medical, CT, USA. After completing the residency, he did two years fellowship training in Infectious Diseases at Hartford Hospital and then worked as an attending of Infectious Diseases for 6 months. He was awarded the Diploma of the American Board in Internal Medicine in 1994 and Diploma of the American Board of Infectious Diseases in 1996. He was recertified in Infectious Disease in 2013. Dr. Alkhal served as the Chair of Family Medicine from 1999 to 2001 and the Chair of the Department of Medicine from 2001 until December 2012.

Dr. Alkhal holds several clinical positions and chairs several committees and has led a number of strategic projects at Hamad Medical Corporation including the ACGME-I accreditation. As well as being the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Education and Director of Medical Education and DIO, Dr. Alkhal is the Head of Communicable Diseases Clinic since 1997. He is also the National TB Program Manager and the Director of the Clinical AIDS Program.

Dr. Alkhal has an advisory role to several public health programs under the umbrella of the Ministry of Health. He has publications in the field of internal medicine, infectious diseases and medical education and is involved in ongoing research projects. Dr. Alkhal has a faculty appointment as Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar since 2007 and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at QU College of Medicine as well as serving as the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.
