The Qatar National Human Rights Committee, in collaboration with Qatar University, is pleased to announce the launch of a research competition dedicated to undergraduate and graduate students at Qatar University. This competition aims to encourage students to submit innovative research proposals that address important societal issues related to human rights and contribute to enhancing societal awareness.
This competition aims to support scientific research and encourage young people to present creative ideas and solutions to meet the challenges according to the competition criteria below. The awards will be announced during the Qatar University Annual Research Forum and Exhibition, scheduled to be held on February 19, 2025.
Competition Criteria
- Target group:
- The competition is open to Qatar University students only from the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Topic:
- Research proposals must be related to the topic “The effects of narcotics and sedative substances on the Qatari society”.
- Submission:
- The research proposal (maximum 3000 words) must include an abstract of a maximum of 150 words.
- The proposal must explain the background of the research, objectives, proposed methodology, and expected results.
- The student must adhere to approved scientific research standards and research ethics.
- Proposals must include accurate documentation of the sources and references used.
- Academic criteria:
- The student must be enrolled at Qatar University.
- It is preferable that the research proposal be submitted in Arabic, but proposals may be accepted in English provided that there is an abstract in Arabic.
- It is preferred but not required that the student have a scientific background commensurate with the topics presented.
Evaluation Criteria
- Relevance to the topic (20%): The proposal must be clear and focused on the chosen issue, and explain its importance to Qatari society.
- Scientific quality (40%): Adherence to scientific research methodology, organization, clarity of objectives, quality of data analysis, and reliable scientific references. It also includes accuracy of language and scientific style of presentation.
- Creativity and innovation (20%): Providing new ideas and practical solutions that contribute to addressing the issues raised.
- Practical impact (20%): Practicality of the research and the proposed solutions, the possibility of using them to address challenges related to the selected topics, and the extent of their potential impact on Qatari society.
Award Description
Six winners are selected based on the degree of evaluation of their proposals by the jury, and the awards are allocated as follows:
- Postgraduate category:
- First place winner: 10,000 Qatari Riyals.
- Second place winner: 8,000 Qatari Riyals.
- Third place winner: 6,000 Qatari Riyals.
- Undergraduate category:
- First place winner: 5,000 Qatari Riyals.
- Second place winner: 4,000 Qatari Riyals.
- Third place winner: 3,000 Qatari Riyals.
