Future doctors were celebrated at Qatar University (QU) in an annual white coat ceremony at the College of Medicine. The College of Medicine, a member of QU Health, celebrated this significant milestone for its fourth year running, for 72 students, who are expected to graduate in 2024. 21 of those students are Qatari.

The ceremony was attended by Vice President for Medical and Health Sciences and Dean of the College of Medicine at Qatar University, Dr. Egon Toft, along with a number of QU officials, faculty, students and staff members. Consultant of Metabolic, Bariatric and Robotic Surgery in Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), DrJassim Fakhro, was the guest of honor at the event.

The ceremony aims to celebrate the transition of medical students from first year (general medicine) to second year (medical program). The ceremony is specifically designed to emphasize students’ commitment to the values of the medical profession and patient care, including integrity and ethical practices.

Dr. Egon Toft spoke at the event saying, “Today, you will begin your journey in the College of Medicine’s rich tradition of excellence. This is the beginning of a new level of hard work in order to refine your passion and commitment to the medical and healthcare field.” He encouraged the students to set their goals to achieve their desired success and to keep contributing to Qatar’s vision in developing healthcare in the country.

Dr. Jassim Fakhro expressed his pride in the college and students saying, “I had previously wished that there would be a College of Medicine in Qatar, where people like myself could study in our home country, near family and friends. However, our ambition to succeed pushed us to study abroad in order to specialize in the field of our choosing. You are very lucky that you have this college. Being near your family in your country is a huge motivator for success, and you will make your family and nation proud.”
