    Apply for Minor

What is a minor? A minor is a curriculum component of an academic program, intended to provide a limited depth and/or breadth study in a discipline or a professional field of study. In simpler words, a minor is your secondary area of study in which you take a number of courses in another program. Some academic majors require completing a minor in order to graduate while for other majors, it is not part of the study plan; therefore, optional. If you consider declaring a minor, here is your starting point:

    • Start by reviewing undergraduate minors offered at Qatar University
    • Review study plans of minors you consider selecting. Study plans may be available on the webpage of the department offering the program
    • Consult your academic advisor for more information on your best-fit program based on your academic progress so far
    • Evaluate the career opportunities of minors you are interested in by using the helpful tools offered by the Career Development Center

There are two types of minor declaration requirements; general requirements set by the University and specific requirements set by each college individually. In order to be eligible for declaring a minor, you are expected to satisfy both, unless otherwise stated.

    General Requirements

Academic minors are open to all Qatar University students provided that:

    • They may not declare a minor before declaring their major
    • They may not declare a minor in the same field as their declared major
    • They meet the admission requirements for the intended minor. For more information on such requirements, please refer to the webpage of Students Affairs’ Office at the college and/or the webpage of the department offering the minor
    • The department and/or college offering the minor approves the student’s enrollment in the minor on the basis of the available capacity
    • Admission to a minor is extremely competitive; satisfying the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission
    • Students may declare one or multiple minors; however, they may apply for one minor at a time. Once admitted in their first minor, students’ may apply for a second minor during the announced application periods
