Inclusion and Special Needs Support Center

Welcome to Academic Year 2023-2024

Qatar University welcomes students with special needs and is committed to providing an inclusive and stimulating learning environment that ensures their academic and personal excellence and development.

In full compliance with the laws related to individuals with special needs in the State of Qatar, and the academic policies of Qatar University, the Inclusion and Special Needs Support Center welcomes students with mobility disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, brain and nerve injuries, learning disabilities, speech disorders, mental disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism, chronic diseases, and temporary injuries. The support is fulfilled by providing in class note takers and coordinating exams for students with special needs. The center also provides awareness workshops on the rights and issues related to special needs. In addition to providing assistive technology services that suit different disabilities and provide appropriate training for each student. The center also works on converting study materials into readable and accessible formats. The center likewise works to ensure accessibility for all university buildings and facilities. In addition to ensuring digital access to all pages of the university's official website.

The University stresses the importance of maintaining complete confidentiality of the data of students with special needs, and assures that the academic support provided, will not affect the academic standards of the university, and there will be no discrimination or difference in the university degree awarded to students with special needs.

We encourage all students with special needs to contact the Inclusion and Special Needs Support Center, as the center provides the opportunity to discuss and determine the appropriate support for each student according to their individual needs.

Over a billion people live with some form of disability. This corresponds to about 15% of the world's population. According to United Nations 15% of students might have some form of disability and need some form of accommodations.

Invisible disabilities are the most common type of disability among college students. For example, students with learning disabilities, chronic illness, psychiatric disabilities, etc., so let us think twice before we say "But you don't look disabled!"

In 2008, Qatar ratified The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which promotes, protects and ensures the human rights for all people with disabilities, independent living and enhanced community inclusion with access to social support services.
