    Lecture given by Prof. Anoush Ehteshami, hosted by the Center for Gulf Studies. Prof. Ehteshami is professor at Durham University, UK, Director of Al-Sabah Programme and Joint Director of the RCUK Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World.

     

    The 2016 U.S. Elections: Impact on the Middle East [20th March 2016]

    Second roundtable organized by the Gulf Studies Center in collaboration with the Brookings Doha Center. The panel included Dr. Abdullah Baabood (Director, the Gulf Studies Center), and John Hudak (Senior Fellow in Governance Studies at Brookings). The discussion was moderated by Sultan Barakat (Director of Research at the Brookings Doha Center).

     

    The Saudi-Iran Crisis [11th January 2016]

    Roundtable organized by Gulf Studies Center. Panelists included Dr. Luciano Zaccara (QU-GSC), Dr. Mahjoob Zweiri (QU) and Dr. Ibrahim Fraihat (Brookings Doha Center). The roundtable was moderated by Dr. Abdullah Baabood (Director, GSC).

    Japan GCC relations [30th December 2015]

    Lecture by Dr. Satoru Nakamura, hosted by the Gulf Studies Center. Dr. Nakamura was visiting professor at Gulf Studies Center during fall 2014, and Professor at Kobe University, Japan.

     

    Labor Migrants Report [9th December 2015]

    The Gulf Studies Center hosted the launch of a report on Labor Migrants and Access to Justice in Qatar. The report was prepared by London School of Economics and funded by Qatar National Research Fund QNRF.

     

    Leftist movements in the Gulf [12th November 2015]

    Talk given by Abdulnabi Alekri, hosted by the Gulf Studies Center and Program. Abdulnabi Alekri is a member of the Bahraini Society for Human Rights and President of the Bahrain Transparency Society. He is the author of many books in Arabic including Leftist Movements in the Arab Gulf, and Dhofar War.

     

    Sectarianism: what it is and what it isn’t [13th October 2015]

    Talk given by Dr. Peter Sluglett, the Gulf Studies Center and Program. Peter Sluglett is Director of the Middle East Institute of the National University of Singapore. He has a BA from Cambridge (1966) and a D.Phil from Oxford (1972). He has taught Middle Eastern History at the University of Durham (1974-1994) and at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City (1994-2011), where he was Director of the University’s Middle East Centre.

    Lecture given by Prof. Daniel Varisco and hosted by the Gulf Studies Center. Prof. Daniel Varisco is a Full Professor and Research Coordinator at the Center for Humanities and Social Sciences at Qatar University, and the President of the American Institute for Yemeni Studies​
