    Facilities of ARS

This is fully controlled indoor hydroponic based vertical farming facility for year-round production of vegetables. The vertical farming, an innovative agricultural practice that involves growing crops in vertically stacked layers or structures is a promising solution for enhancing food security, especially suitable for regions and limited arable land and challenging climatic conditions.

    Vertical Farming

    Indoor Vertical Farming

A fully controlled hydroponic system for year-round vegetable production. Ideal for regions with limited arable land and challenging climates.

    Vertical Farming

    Technology Integration

Utilizes LED lighting, automated nutrient delivery, and climate control systems for optimal plant growth.

The ARS possess various types (basic and medium tech) greenhouses for food crops experimentation, breeding, and propagation under a controlled environment. New cost-saving crops cultivation techniques are developed and tested for improved food supply chain value.

    Vertical Farming

    Basic Greenhouses

Used for initial crop trials and basic environmental control experiments.

    Vertical Farming

    Medium-Tech Greenhouses

Equipped with advanced climate control for precision research conditions.

To encourage local honey production, promote sustainable agricultural practices, habitat and reduce dependence on imported honey, this facility is used for honeybee research, production, education, and training.

    Vertical Farming
    1. Honeybee Research:

Studying bee behavior and honey production in arid climate

    2. Local Honey Production:

Promoting sustainable beekeebing practices in Qatar

    3. Education and Training:

Offering workshops on beekeeping for local farmers and enthusiats

Also available at the station is a nursery used in facilitating research at the ARS. It is used for plants propagation, including flowers, shrubs, trees, vegetables, and herbs.

    Vertical Farming

    Plant Propagation

Specialized area for growing and nurturing young plants for research.

    Vertical Farming

    Diverse Plant Species

We grow a wide range of vegetables, herbs, flowers, and shrubs in the net house. It allows for some degree of protection while still facilitating air circulation, sunlight, and rain.

    Non-Toxic Pest Control Room
    • Non-Chemical Based Eco-friendly Fumigation System.
    • Sustainable Approach to Improve Food Shelf Life.

To promote global best practice standards in agricultural production, the ARS incorporates sustainable approaches in food research, particularly as it relates to post harvest processing. One of the new facilities at the station is a non-chemical based eco-friendly fumigation system. Our pest control room offer controlled atmosphere solutions to pest infestation problems without using toxic chemicals, but on the very fundamental principle that without oxygen nothing can survive.

Research laboratories including soil science, seed technology, plant physiology, biotechnology, as well as natural products, and food processing labs are currently being established.
