    Study Abroad

Qatar University students may apply for study courses in other institutions as visiting students and have their credits transferred to their records at QU, according to University policy. You can download the list of Course Equivalency for Study Abroad.

    Application Period for Spring 2025

    Sunday, 10 November 2024 till Thursday, 5 December 2024.

Students need to submit a course syllabus to be evaluated for equivalency. The syllabus needs to meet the following criteria:

    • Original and stamped by the issuing department.
    • Should be issued recently for the semester the student will study abroad.

You can use this sample syllabus template. It is very important for the syllabus to include the requirements shown in the template except those that are inapplicable such as the lab part. Any syllabus that is either incomplete or lacks the required information as shown in the sample unfortunately will not be accepted since all information is mandatory for the College to make a decision.

    • The university must be accredited by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. In addition, the system of study at that university must be a credit hour system.
    • The course credit hours must be equivalent to or higher than the number of credit hours of the course at Qatar University.
    • A student at Qatar University is allowed to register for courses in other universities in one or more semesters, provided that he/she does not register for any courses at QU during the semester in which he/she studies away.
    • A student who applies to study abroad must have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours at the time of application.
    • A student on academic probation is not permitted to apply for study away.
    • Courses with a grade of “C” or above are transferable. He/she will receive a Transfer Credit grade of “TC”. Transfer course grades are not included in GPA calculation.
    • If the student wants to repeat a failed course in an accredited university, the course will be transferred to QU and will receive a Transfer Credit grade of “TC”. Transfer course grades are not included in GPA calculation.
    • Students who apply for study away may not exceed the maximum academic load for the academic semester (18 credit hours) unless the GPA is 3.5 or above. They may register for 12 credit hours for the summer semester.
    • The student must pass the pre-requisite of the course, and if he/she does not pass it, the course will not be transferred.
    • Credit hours transferred will be used to complete graduation requirements provided they do not exceed 50% of the required credit hours needed for graduation from QU. If the student has successfully completed more than 50% of the courses required for a degree at QU at other institutions, he/she will have to determine the course(s) to be transferred to their record at QU given that they fall within their study plan at QU.
    • No course will be transferred after one year from the date of application submission.
