    Workshop Scope:

    Workshop aims to share experiences and knowledge regarding “Hands-on” application of strategies and tools that support generating data products in-line with the FAIR data principles. The following topics will be covered:

    Day 1: FAIR DATA

    Day 2: DATA MANAGEMENT

    Day 3: METADATA MANAGEMENT

    Time:  09:00 - 11:00 Hours

    Outcomes:

    This workshop aims to promote the practice of data sharing in the State of Qatar. Accordingly, participants are expected to attain the following set of outcomes;

    • Understanding of FAIR Data Principles.

    • Research Data and Metadata Workflows.

    • Best practices in Data Management using Statistical Software.

    • Metadata Standards and long-term data preservation.

    Target Group:

    Researchers, Data Managers, Data Analysts, Data Librarians, Research Survey Data Archivists, Informatics Specialist, Library & Information Systems Students and Other Data Producers.

    Participants Background:

    Basic knowledge of Statistics, Informatics, Databases, and Programming.

    Proposed date: 04 - 06 September 2023

    Venue: SESRI Training Room, Qatar University

    Duration: 2 Hours Daily

    Number of attendees: 20 Seats

    Other Requirements: Content will mostly be in English

    Other Requirements: and participants to bring their own laptops.

    Presenter Bio

    Mr. Brian W. Mandikiana is a Senior Research Data Analyst / Lead Data Archivist at the Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), Qatar University. Brian has experience in data analysis, data management, metadata management, and metadata standards. Brian has published in both Academic and Technical Journals, regularly attends conferences in alignment with various stages of the data lifecycle as a presenter and to upskill. Due to his passion and belief in the power of data products in supporting human development, Brian has received fellowships from key stakeholders in the Data Management landscape, such as the International Federation for Data Organizations (IFDO), pan-European Collaborative Data Infrastructure EUDAT-CDI / the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) and IASSIST. Some his work has been accepted for presentation at the Stata (Statistical Software for Data Science & Data Analysis) User Group conferences, and the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI).

    The Social and Economic Survey Research Institute at Qatar University (QU) recently hosted a research event called "Enhancing Sustainable Urban Living in Qatar and the Gulf Region: Workshop on Approaches and Techniques." This workshop received sponsorship and financial support from the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF).

    Among the notable attendees were Minister of Municipality H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, QU President Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham, Director of the Institute Dr. Kaltham bin Ali Al Ghanim, Secretary-General of the United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia (UCLG-MEWA) Dr. Mehmet Duman, along with a delegation accompanying him, and various university staff members.

    Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in multiple discussion panels and research dialogues. The initial session centered on exploring sustainability's fundamental concepts, indicators, and a multidimensional framework. The subsequent session delved into the multifaceted aspects of quality of life and human well-being.

    The third session encompassed discussions on constructing a comprehensive multidimensional structure for urban quality of life, while the fourth session addressed areas of agreement and those necessitating further examination in assessing quality of life and human well-being in the Gulf region.

    Lastly, the fifth session fostered discussions among stakeholders involved in policymaking within the field.
