Qatar University (QU), in cooperation with the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science organize the Second Youth Forum on “The Role of Youth in Innovation and Sustainable Development in the State of Qatar” under the slogan “A Knowledge Economy Benefits All.” The event took place on 27-28 November 2018 in QU’s Research Complex.

Attending the event is QU’s Professor Mariam Al-Ali Al-Maadeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies; Mr. Abdullah Khamis Al-Kubaisi, Head of the Arab and Islamic Affairs Department at the Qatar National Commission; representatives from Qatar Youth Hostels and a number of researchers including those interested in innovation and sustainable development.

The forum also saw the participation of a number of local high schools including: Noor Al Khaleej International School, the Sudan School, Global Academy International, Ahmed Bin Hanbal Independent Secondary School for Boys, MES Indian School, Middle East International School and for the first time, also included the participation of young adults from the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr. Mariam Al-Ali Al-Maadeed delivered the opening speech saying, “This forum is a platform for the voices of our young students, who will meet in this forum to present their research and showcase their ideas on social and economic priorities. This is a valuable opportunity to develop students and empower them through research and the various requirements needed for the sustainable development of the State of Qatar.”

Mr. Abdullah Al-Kubaisi said during the two-day event, "This forum is an excellent opportunity for creating constructive dialogue among your peers. During this time, you will develop your talents, discover your creative and innovative potential and strengthen your way of thinking by discussing your research on a scientific and also a humanistic basis. You will also learn to use these skills to solve problems, lead sustainable development projects and conduct meaningful, respectful dialogue with others from all walks of life.”

The idea of establishing a youth forum in Qatar aims at developing and highlighting the role of the society and the private sector in human development through education, establishment of universities and promoting the culture of scientific research and the benefits of museums. The importance of this forum stems from the need to support scientific educational research culture and heritage as a condition to achieve Qatar Vision 2030 and the national development strategic plan 2018-2022 and to sustain the development. In this context, the forum aims at developing among youth the culture of scientific research and affirm their leadership roles in creating opportunities and progress within the framework of contemporary research and scientific methodologies and linking it to the needs of society. This forum had sessions on various topics including: Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Peace Justice and Strong Institutions and many more.
