The 5th Summer Research Internship Program commences at Qatar University (QU). Research is the cornerstone of progress, the driving force behind advancements in every field and discipline. It represents an unwavering commitment to exploration and an insatiable thirst for knowledge that ignites the flames of discovery, leading us to breakthroughs with the potential to revolutionize society.
The 5th Summer Research Internship Program was officially inaugurated, with the distinguished presence of Prof. Mariam Ali Al–Maadeed, the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at Qatar University. Esteemed dignitaries and industry leaders graced the event, highlighting the importance of research and its impact. This year witnessed a large participation with 256 students in 37 projects.
Prof. Mariam Ali Al–Maadeed, the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, officiated the opening of the event, inspiring the participating students with the importance of internships in nation building and meeting the local market requirements. During her opening speech, she stated, “This program is quintessential for the State of Qatar, wherein the nation’s youth are encouraged to develop their competencies and contribute to capacity building and a knowledge-based economy in Qatar.”
As part of the inaugural ceremony, an orientation session was conducted by Dr. Zubair Ahmad, Head of the Module Development and Publications Department at QU’s Young Scientists Center. The session provided valuable insights into the program's facts, figures, and details regarding the different tracks and participating projects.
Similar to the successful tracks from last year, this year’s program consisted of three tacks:
- Track 1: An outcomes-directed intensive research program.
- Track 2: Research & training focused.
- Track 3: External projects by medical and industrial companies.
The inaugural day also featured an informative talk by Mr. Abdel Hakim Bishawi, Acting Head of Research and Instructions Section, on the topic, ‘Qatar University Library: Learning Spaces, Services, and Resources,’ specifically tailored for students pursuing track 1.
Prof. Noora Al-Thani, Director of QU’s Young Scientists Center, extended her best wishes to the students and emphasized that the program plays a vital role in strengthening the young talent pool from diverse backgrounds by developing the necessary competencies to adept, thrive, and succeed in a rapidly changing world. By doing so, the program successfully contributes to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal 17 through capacity-building efforts.
