Dr. Yaman Tayyar, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Qatar University's (QU) Biomedical Research Center, has been crowned the winner of the 2024 Stars of Science competition, for his invention 'Geno'.

Dr Tayyar's invention (Geno) aims to democratize access to groundbreaking discoveries in Gene Medicine by providing an opportunity for all researchers to develop these therapeutics. In addition, Geno aims to streamline the development of personalized gene medicine in clinical setting in the future.

Dr. Tayyar's invention to develop novel gene-medicine therapies is a significant breakthrough in the field. His innovation, which underwent rigorous testing in collaboration with laboratories at QU, earned him this prestigious recognition. His project demonstrated significant potential in improving public health outcomes and making a positive impact on people's daily lives across the region.

In a comment on the occasion, Dr. Yaman said, “Today marks a significant milestone in the journey to democratize access to cutting-edge gene therapeutics for researchers and patients alike. This achievement would not have been possible without the support and valuable contributions of many individuals and institutions. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Qatar University for providing the infrastructure and expertise that were essential to the success of this project. Their commitment to supporting innovation, including giving me the opportunity to work on new therapeutic approaches to improve preparedness for future pandemics, is a model to be followed. I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to the Stars of Science program, Qatar Foundation, and all who contributed to this success. This is just the beginning—'Geno' is poised to become a key player in advancing public health and making a lasting impact on patients and their caregivers."

The final episode of the competition was aired on Qatar TV on October 19, showcasing Dr. Tayyar's project alongside other outstanding innovations from across the Arab world. The voting closed on October 18, reflecting the immense support Dr. Tayyar received from both viewers and experts alike.
