Qatar University (QU) Alumni Association announced the launch of the third edition of the 2024 Science Camp in collaboration with various governmental and academic entities. The camp aims to develop students' skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) across various scientific fields. Its primary focus is to foster creative and critical thinking, encourage scientific discovery, and promote teamwork and communication skills among participants. Through this initiative, students explored scientific concepts in innovative ways, helping ignite their passion for science and equipping them to solve real-world challenges.
Science Camp offers a unique learning environment where students can interact with scientific concepts in engaging and creative ways. It aims to inspire young minds, nurturing them to become future leaders in scientific fields by strengthening their problem-solving abilities and empowering them to embrace scientific exploration.
The objectives of the Science Camp include fostering a culture of scientific inquiry and passion, developing innovative approaches to scientific knowledge, and encouraging diverse talents across multiple disciplines. The camp also seeks to strengthen the contributions of QU's students and graduates to the community and promote national identity through educational and scientific activities.
Dr. Wardh Garab, the Founder and Head of the Biology Education Chapter at the QU Alumni Association, highlighted the importance of the initiative, saying, “At the Biology Education Association, we strive to create innovative and unconventional learning experiences that aim to build a knowledgeable and creative generation in science. This year's Science Camp offers an open challenge to ambitious minds, designed to combine enjoyable learning with real-life applications. Through various scientific stations and practical experiments, we aim to stimulate our students' thinking and help them develop critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills essential for facing future challenges. Our goal is to cultivate a love for learning and discovery and to empower students to become decision-makers in the scientific fields. We are honored to guide them, as science serves as a catalyst for transformation."
Mrs. Susan Mohammed Essam, an Environmental Researcher from the Ministry's Public Relations Department's Awareness Section, delivered a lecture as part of the camp's activities on behalf of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The lecture focused on strategies to combat climate change, targeting parents attending the event at QU, and discussed the causes of climate change, the types of greenhouse gases, and the environmental impact of the growing carbon footprint. Mrs. Susan proposed practical solutions for individuals to contribute to environmental sustainability, including raising community awareness, modifying dietary habits, reducing food waste, promoting agriculture and afforestation, and investing in eco-friendly initiatives. She emphasized in her remarks that humans are the ones who make a difference.
The Science Camp featured a variety of activities throughout the day. The morning session kicked off with a grand opening ceremony, followed by interactive workshops for both parents and students, engaging theater performances, and meaningful discussions. Participants also explored innovative science stations that bring scientific concepts to life.
Throughout the camp, participants had many opportunities to connect, share experiences, and engage in meaningful conversations, creating an environment that promotes learning, discovery, and collaboration between students and their families.
Science Camp 2024 promised to deliver an enriching experience, combining education and entertainment to inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. This initiative aimed to prepare students for the future by equipping them with scientific expertise and instilling a passion for exploration, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
