The Ibn Khaldon Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences at Qatar University (QU), in cooperation with the Department of Social Sciences at the QU College of Arts and Sciences, organized a scientific conference entitled, “Localization of Social Sciences in the Gulf: Efforts, Challenges and Prospects,” in the presence and participation of many interested in this topic from all over the Gulf.

This conference comes to present and discuss the most important ways to localize social sciences in the Gulf, including psychology, localization of educational concepts and localization of legal studies in the Gulf, and discuss the most important challenges and obstacles faced by researchers when localizing research output.

In her speech, Dr. Fatima Al-Kubaisi, Head of the Department of Social Sciences, said: “Our educational institutions study Western theories in addressing issues related to our local communities, without considering the ability of these theories to address our local problems. This conference comes in the context of testing these capabilities locally so that they can be built upon in line with our needs.”

At the end of the conference, a dialogue session was held to discuss the criteria for localizing research production in the social sciences.
