Qatar University (QU) participated in Second Waste Management Conference and Exhibition which was held on 13 and 14 June at Sheraton Doha Hotel.
Qatar university’s several departments participated, which included; Qatar University Press, Environmental and Sustainability Facilities & General Services section –Department, Center for Sustainable Development - College of Arts and Sciences Environment and sustainability club established by Biological and environmental science department.
Prof. Maryam Al-Maadeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, participated in a panel discussion within the activities of the Second Waste Management Conference and Exhibition. In a statement on this occasion, she said, “Qatar University has four research pillars, all of which revolve around the state of Qatar's national priorities, including: Among these is the energy and environment pillar, which includes transformational priorities such as transforming waste into valuable resources for the food, water, and energy sectors, which is one of the most significant pillar.”
Prof. Maryam Al-Maadeed also stressed that Qatar University pays attention to the subject of scientific research and its tangible contributions, especially the field of sustainable development, which is concerned with the issue of waste recycling; In this regard, Qatar University has established a number of initiatives and achievements, including: The establishment of the Qatar University Center for Young Scientists, which is concerned with raising an empowered Qatari generation experienced in applied scientific research.
Prof. Maryam pointed out that educational institutions in the country should not be isolated from the rest of the state's institutions in their various sectors and specializations. Its research output must serve the needs of society and have a tangible impact.
It is worth noting that Qatar University’s participation in the Waste Management Conference and Exhibition comes in light of the increasing interests that the State of Qatar attaches to the issue of waste management and treatment, in addition to providing the most important solutions and innovations reached by the participating parties in the field of waste management, treatment and recycling, and the pursuit of achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.
