The Office of Graduate Studies under the Office of Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at Qatar University (QU) welcomed newly admitted Spring 2020 graduate students during Orientation Day. During the event, various college representatives were present as they welcomed 70 newly admitted students into the program.

Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Ahmed Elzatahry was on hand to give a warm welcome speech in which he discussed the nature of study during the postgraduate stage, followed by a presentation introducing the Office of Graduate Studies, its different departments and type of services.

The members of the office’s Student Affairs team also presented a brief summary of the nature of their work and the services that they provide to graduate students. Ms. Ghada Al-Kuwari, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the Office of Graduate Studies, conducted a presentation that included a guide to the Postgraduate Office website, followed by a detailed explanation of some important policies that students must consider during their studies at the university. She also drew the students’ attention to the services provided by the Student Services Department, as well as an overview of how to obtain textbooks in both paper and electronic format.

In addition, students were briefed about the Institutional Review Board (IRB), which deals with research ethics, and the types of approvals that must be obtained by students before starting their thesis.

Ms. Mounia Zidani, Senior Graduate Writing Specialist spoke about the services provided, such as workshops for writing a university thesis, how to use the SPSS program and benefit from it in research questionnaires. She also spoke about tadTalks and tad Bootcamp events provided by the Learning Support Unit, which are conducted regularly under her supervision.

The event concluded with a discussion session, during which all student queries were answered by the Dean and Assistant Deans of the Postgraduate Studies Office.
