The Culture and Arts Chapter in Qatar University’s (QU) Alumni Association in cooperation with Qatar University Library organized Caricature Art Exhibition of Qatari Artist Abdulaziz Sadeq and Seminar shedding light on social issues through drawings, the event was held at University Library.
The Exhibition was attended by QU faculty, staff and students. Exhibition addressed social issues through caricature. Exhibition was inaugurated by Dean of College of Education QU, Dr. Ahmed Al Emadi which was followed by cake cutting ceremony.
Amna Abdulkarim, Artist and Vice President of The Culture and Arts Chapter at QU said: “Caricature is an interesting form of art to convey your message. Our Artist Abdulaziz has portrayed social issues through interesting caricature. This is the form of art which is very easily attracted by the readers. Abdulaziz uses his pen as a weapon, he draws the thoughts that trouble people in daily life and his each painting has a message to convey. We are happy to host such events for public which are meaningful and educational in the vast field of Art.”
During the exhibition, Fatima Al Thani, Senior Engagement and Communication specialist at QU Library said: “We are delighted to organize this exhibition in cooperation with Culture and arts chapter and to highlight work of our talented artist which has portrayed very important topics through his drawings. We look forward to host such events in collaboration with different organizations.”
The seminar was held under the title “Rebuilding Society through Caricature”. Seminar was moderated by Kholeh Mortaza Mortazawi, President of The Culture and Arts Chapter at QU, three speakers included, Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Selim, Academic Coordinator of Languages, Communication and Translation at College of Arts and Science QU, Dr. Ahmed Haji Safar, Assistant Professor of Arabic Language QU, Dr. Imteman Al-Smadi, Faculty Member of Department of Arabic Language and Literature QU.
Commenting on Abdulaziz’s work, Dr. Mohamed Mostafa said: “After the first two artists in 80 century Salman Al- Maliki and Ahmed Hilal, Abdulaziz continued their legacy in caricature. Abdulaziz has a unique style of shedding light on social issues, in a polite manner the message is conveyed and the audience enjoy it a lot. Highlighting daily life issues such as, rash driving, pollution at public areas and etc. His drawings are easy to understand and his work recalls the childhood memories we have of Qatari society.”

During the seminar, Dr. Ahmed Haji Safar said: “Abdulaziz as an artist who transforms social issues into caricature which he uses to raise awareness among the audience. The power of pen portrays meaningful and educational messages.”
“This kind of societal awareness aims to transfer emotions of public to the audience, in order to make the development of a nation,” he added.
Dr. Imteman Al-Smadi, said: “Abdulaziz presents reality of life in a beautiful way through his caricatures, which is used as an expression of showing the feelings of people. Caricature is the type of art which is used as universal language. It can be easily understood and enjoyed at the same time. He focuses on the political and social issues. Abdulaziz uses the modern way by graphic designing. His drawings mainly focus on flaws of society.”
The Culture and Arts Chapter aims to be a comprehensive and purposeful cultural platform that invests in interested audiences, in a climate that provides useful information that is also enjoyable. In future Culture and Arts chapter is planning for a number of practical workshops in the field of self-development, creativity and intellectual thought.
