Qatar University responded to this emergency call by QNRF about Coronavirus (Covid-19), when the faculty members and researchers applied many proposals to address their research areas, also to support the national research priorities objective.
Qatar University has been awarded 14 proposals among total of 21 awarded proposals by QNRF to all institutions inside Qatar.
The awards where for different colleges and centers inside Qatar University. The research centers received 5 awards, where 2 awards were for biomedical research center, 2 awards for the center of advanced materials and one award for the social and economic survey research institute. The other awards where distributed among QU colleges and other centers.
The big portion of the awards was in supporting the health research areas, where we received 9 awards under the health research area, 3 for the social and cultural life, 1 award for the Transport and communication research area and 1 award for the economy research area.
Prof. Mohamed Al-Salem Director of Research Support at Qatar University Said: “The Rapid response call is an emergency call launched by Qatar National Research Fund that is designed to study sudden and significant situations and help Qatari society and its institutions mitigate their impact. It’s really challenging and innovative to write proposals during this international pandemic, we are proud of Qatar University success in this call along with the other calls and research opportunities that tackles the current pandemic COVID19.”
This call complements QNRF’s diverse portfolio of programs and calls and is designed to provide funding on fast-track basis to address the challenges and opportunities presented by sudden and emergent situations such as that of COVID-19.
