Qatar University’s (QU) The Research and Graduate Studies Sector organized the online Honoring Ceremony for the participating students on Research Internship 2020 yesterday via WebEx in the presences of Prof. Mariam Al-Maadeed, Vice Presented for Research and Graduate Studies, the directors of research centers, Faculty, researchers and Participant students.
The Summer Research Internship 2020, was conducted during 7th June and 2nd July 2020 drew students, lab staff and researchers together to learn & develop research skills in graduate and under graduate students of all the colleges at QU.
The training was organized at six research centers namely, Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Biomedical Research Center (BRC), Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC), Central Laboratories Unit (CLU), Qatar University Young Scientists Center (YSC) and Social & Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), under the supervisor of office of Vice president for Research & Graduate studies. The directors, technical managers and staff of the respective centers took keen interest in making this program a great success.
The team included; Taher Al-Otaibi from CLU, Amine Zaidi from BRC, Dhabya Al-Khater from LARC, Sofia Basha from SESRI, Aldana Alyafei from CAM and Aisha Al-Thani from YSC
As part of the precautionary measures followed by QU to prevent, the spread of (COVID-19) QU Summer Research Internship IS conducted online. Total 17 specific topics were covered, around 150 students from different colleges actively participated in this summer research internship -2020
Office of VP for research and graduate studies has a plan to will continue its efforts to conduct such program in every summer and to enhance the research culture and participation of undergraduate and graduate students in research activities.
The ceremony program included reports of improvements and outcomes of internship programs, thank you notes from the directors and success stories from each student to present their research.
Dr. Abdelbary Mohamed El-Hissi, Acting Director of Research Planning & Development stated that the hosting of summer internship 2020 program through the electronic platforms has proven the ability of QU to be responsive to the conditions caused by Covid-19 Pandemic. This happened through effective technology and providing evidence that the University has advanced in terms of digital transformation to facilitate the provision of not only regular education but also untraditional opportunities of research training. The success of the summer research training program in its virtual version represents a prominent advancement of Qatar University’s role as the first national university and the main tributary to building a promising Qatari society that is capable of facing challenges and advancing the future of the Qatari nation through the distinguished students and the capable research faculty at Qatar University.”
