Qatar University’s Young Scientists Center (YSC), in cooperation with the office of Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies (VPRGS), is launching a research program called “National Science Promotion Program (NSPP)”, to build and consolidate the research culture in the national youth.
This new research grant is aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and will provide the research fields according to the national research priorities in the State of Qatar. It is a promising initiation from Qatar University aligning to the goals set under the pillar 'Human Development' supporting the Qatar National Vision 2030 and promoting youth empowerment through research and innovation programs.
Also, it asserted that scientific research provides the foundations for the renaissance and advancement of any nation. The discoveries and inventions are considered the basis of human civilizations since ancient times. It has become apparent in the modern world that without the investment in scientific research at the educational level, it is impossible to achieve renaissance, development, or civilization in any way.
Through NSPP, high school and university students will get an opportunity to conduct scientific research under highly qualified faculty members and scientists at Qatar University. They will gain experience working in real scientific research and be trained in top-notch laboratories using the high-tech research facilities at different research centers and colleges in Qatar University. This program will bridge the smooth transition of high school students to the University, where they will excel in learning and scientific research.
This program provides a unique educational environment for high school students entirely different from the school environment. The students work as researchers who participate, add, and initiate "research and innovation", which is an influential educational success element. The program is characterized by strengthening their research, analysis, thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, among the students for preparing them to admit to high-ranked national and international universities. It refines and strengthens their personality, giving them self-confidence and consolidating intellectual property's significance in innovation and invention. University students from science and engineering disciplines will also join the program to refine and improve their research capabilities as a part of their scientific journey.
The eligibility criteria to join the program include that the applicant must be a Qatari national student in grade tenth or eleventh in any of Qatar's schools, while university students must be at the undergraduate level from any science and engineering colleges. The application process consists of several stages that will be announced shortly to select the best candidates from the two different academic grades to provide influential research opportunities.
On this occasion, Dr. Maryam Al-Maadeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, said, "Universities play an important role in the development of civilization, as Qatar University is considered the most prestigious national higher educational institution which has always been a leader in achieving Qatar's vision and goals."
She also added, "The launch of this initiative by Qatar University will re-imagine students' role in the educational process and update them to world trends in research and prepare them to become the future leaders for the development and advancement of the country."
