Due to the belief in the value of the individual in society and its keenness in investing in individual energies, Qatar University (QU) hosted the “Annual Research Forum & Exhibition 2019” under the theme “Research Transformation through the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Challenges and Social Innovations” and insured that the first day of the forum and exhibition was focused on students in postgraduate studies. The event featured tadTalks for graduate students under the theme “Resilience in Research,” held in QU’s research complex, as part of the events activities. A number of senior representatives from QU and from a number of educational institutes around Qatar attended, including Professor Mariam Al-Ali Al-Maadeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies.
The Annual Research Forum and Exhibition was a meeting point for students, researchers and academics from the University’s 10 colleges, centers and institutes; including partners and stakeholders, to assess and review the institution’s research enterprise. This high profile event was extended to two days and featured theory grounded discussions and original research presentations. It was an occasion to demonstrate new tools, report on the implementation of new programs, collaborations, innovations and other relevant projects that take bearing from the QU Research Roadmap 2018-2022, Qatar National Research Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.
The forum highlighted the important and award winning research being conducted at QU, which promotes the vision and research priorities of Qatar in the areas of water security, energy security, cyber security, social priorities and health; and the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
During the tadTalks portion of events, a group of students participated in the sessions from QU, Qatar Foundation, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Doha Institute for Graduate Studies and from the United States of America, Canada, Netherlands, Turkey, Japan and Australia.
Professor Mariam Al-Ali Al-Maadeed said during the event, “Progress in civilization depends on human construction. For this reason, we created this research forum, which features an elite group of students from Qatar and abroad in tadTalks discussions targeting postgraduate students. Technology is a gift, but man is the most important gift, with which without, there would be no innovation or transformation. We are thrilled to be here today to discuss with our fellow academics and talented students under the slogan of resilience and excellence. To excel is the basic concept to achieve progress.”
The forum also included a panel discussion on the scholarly peer-review system, which was conducted by QU Press Founding Director, Editorial Committee Chair, and Oil & Gas Law Professor, Prof. Talal Abdulla Al-Emadi. During this panel discussion, the experience of publication of research in scientific journals by QU PhD students was discussed.
The event also featured rally driver Mohammed Al-Mannai, who spoke at the event. Mohammed boasts a 32-year-old career, which saw him compete and win in numerous local and international championships. After being injured in an accident, Mohammed showed persistence by competing still and becoming an icon and influencer in the community through speaking of his journey in newspapers, television and schools.
