Qatar University (QU) hosts a press conference yesterday to announce the Annual Research Forum & Exhibition 2019, which will be held from 23-24 April, under the theme “Research Transformation through the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Challenges and Social Innovations,” as universities adapt to the positive and challenging changes that the current industrial revolution brings.
Present at the press conference were QU senior representatives Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, Prof Mariam Al-Maadeed; Professor & Director of Research Support, Research & Graduate Studies Office, Prof. Mohammed Hassan Al-Salem; Dean of Graduate Studies, Research & Graduate Studies Office, Ahmed Elzatahry; and QU Press Director Dr Talal Al Emadi, who were on hand to publicize the forum and exhibition, its prizes, delegations and to present a brief on the tadTalks discussions and its importance and relationship with students of graduate studies. The press conference also shed light on QU Press’s role in QU and how it supports researchers.
In her speech, Prof Mariam Al-Maadeed said that the forum includes around 300 research posters presented by members of QU offering the latest research achievements and innovations in the fields of social sciences, energy and environment, health, and information technology.
In the spirit of promoting scientific research and innovation, a wide range of prizes will be distributed, with prizes specifically for QU students and its faculty. Special prizes will be awarded from Qatar Petroleum and Barzan Holdings. The awards include research excellence, best research poster, postgraduate award and visual presentation challenge.
The Annual Research Forum and Exhibition will be a meeting point for students, researchers and academics from the University’s colleges, centers and institutes; including partners and stakeholders, to assess and review the institution’s research enterprise. This year’s high profile event will be extended to two days and will feature theory grounded discussions, and original research presentations. It is an occasion to demonstrate new tools, or report on the implementation of new programs, collaborations, innovations and other relevant projects that take bearing from the QU Research Roadmap 2018-2022, Qatar National Research Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.
The forum will offer QU the opportunity to demonstrate how it has been addressing the community’s challenges through research anchored on a vibrant partnership with industry and various other stakeholders, including institutions and research centers. Through this, the University aims to achieve research-driven learning, discovery and entrepreneurship. The event also provides leverage for QU faculty and students to be able to access how to make maximum use of opportunities offered by the respective partners.
The forum will also highlight the important and award winning research being conducted at QU, which promotes the vision of the University and supports the research priorities of Qatar in the areas of water security, energy security, cyber security, social priorities and health; and the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
