Students from QU Health at Qatar University (QU) have demonstrated exceptional capability in the recently concluded International Interprofessional Clinical Case Competition (I2C2). Notably, a student from the College of Health Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences program, Ms. Shibila Nezrin, played a pivotal role in securing victory as a member of the winning team in I2C2.
I2C2, a well-known health-profession team challenge, drew participants from various health disciplines worldwide for a virtual competition and case presentation. Seven students from QU Health, representing the College of Medicine, the College of Pharmacy, the College of Dental Medicine, and the College of Health Sciences, showcased their skills in this global event.
The competition's objective is to foster collaboration among students from diverse professions, institutions, and countries. Through small teams, participants collectively addressed a complex clinical case, gaining valuable interprofessional experience. The challenge also provided students with the opportunity to showcase their creativity by producing a video illustrating their team's solution to the case.
Ms. Shibila Nezrin, member of the winning team said, “This competition exemplifies the strength of teamwork and interprofessional cooperation, and I am immensely grateful for this invaluable opportunity.”
Ms. Sawsan AlMukdad, Interprofessional Education Clinical Specialist at QU Health, served as a mentor for the second-place winning team in the competition. The team included students from various universities, including RAK Medical & Health Sciences University (UAE), Virginia Commonwealth University (USA), Saint Louis University (USA), Misr International University (Egypt), and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (USA). Representing a range of health professions and backgrounds, including pharmacy, medicine, dietetics, oral & dental medicine, and speech-language pathology, the students showcased exceptional collaboration and innovation.
Reflecting on the experience, Ms. AlMukdad commented, “As the faculty liaison for the International Interprofessional Clinical Case Competition (I2C2), I am proud of our team's accomplishment as the second-winning team. This competition provides students with a unique opportunity to collaborate on interprofessional teams, addressing a complex case for a patient with a stroke across various health professions and fostering valuable interprofessional experience. Despite time zone challenges, participants from our team demonstrated resilience and dedication by meeting regularly to discuss the case and create a compelling video to share their innovative solutions. The I2C2 competition illustrates the substantial impact of teamwork, emphasizing the broader importance of cultivating interprofessional education in the evolving landscape of health education.”
