Qatar University (QU) Alumni Association, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al-Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Omar Al-Ansari, President of QU, and the esteemed members of the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, proudly inaugurated its new headquarters on the university campus. A high-level meeting marked the inauguration ceremony and the unveiling of the association's ambitious programs for the 2023–2024 academic year.
This significant event provided an opportunity for the esteemed Board of Directors to discuss the strategies and recommendations proposed by the association's key sectors, including the Chapters Committee, Marketing Committee, Career Development Committee, and Financial Committee.
In his statement on this occasion, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al-Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and President of QU Alumni Association, emphasized the importance of allocating a permanent headquarter within the University for the Association. This step brings together thousands of male and female graduates from QU, who, despite their different graduating classes and majors, all share the common bond of belonging to this leading national educational institution. Furthermore, he praised the role played by QU in the comprehensive development of the country since its establishment in the seventies of the last century until today.
His statement came during his participation in the inauguration of the new headquarters of the QU Alumni Association, alongside Dr. Omar Al-Ansari, President of QU, and the members of the QU Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Dr. Omar Mohammed Al Ansari, President of QU, congratulated the Alumni Association on the opening of its permanent headquarters on the university campus, highlighting the crucial role the association plays in connecting graduates with each other and with their university. He also appreciated the various events, training courses, and diverse services provided by the association to QU graduates.
On this occasion, Mr. Mohammed Saeed Al Mohannadi, the Executive Director of the QU Alumni Association, praised the step of inaugurating the permanent headquarter of the association, emphasizing that this headquarter will significantly enhance the association's capacity to fulfill its substantial mission of supporting the university's plans. He also emphasized that the inauguration of the new headquarters of QU Alumni will contribute to the realization of its vision, which aims to strengthen the ties and communication among its graduates who are making significant contributions to the country's development from various positions.
Ms. Buthaina Ibrahim Lanaqwi, the Manager of the Alumni Relations Office, spoke about the significance of this moment, which is represented by the inauguration of a permanent headquarters for the Association. She stated, “The association had been working on this step for years, and now it has become a noticeable reality within the university's infrastructure.” She expressed her gratitude for the support of the Board of Directors and QU, which has enabled the Alumni Association to expand its presence both nationally and internationally, facilitating continuous communication with graduates in different locations to strengthen their connection with the university.
The meeting showcased the annual plans of each Chapter and discussed the financial funding required for the successful execution of the Qatar University Alumni Association's ambitious initiatives. Notable recommendations were put forth in each sector, with a strong emphasis on enhancing the association's presence, both within the university and in the broader community.
The Marketing Committee, responsible for promoting the association's activities and engaging with its members, recommended a comprehensive annual plan. This plan includes conducting post-event surveys to gather feedback for continuous improvement, boosting the association's social media presence, sharing event updates on various social media platforms, and fostering collaborations with other universities in Qatar to further enhance the alumni network's reach.
The Career Development Committee, devoted to the professional development of alumni, proposed an array of initiatives. A focal point was the establishment of tailored professional training courses, particularly in entrepreneurship. These courses will be organized in cooperation with local institutions such as the Qatar Science and Technology Park, the Qatar Chamber of Commerce, the Qatar Development Bank (QDB), and the Office of Strategic Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development. Additionally, the committee recommended arranging a series of meetings with accomplished individuals under the theme "Sons and Daughters of the University" and maintaining regular contact with industry experts through a dedicated platform.
The Chapters Committee, responsible for fostering collaboration and participation among alumni, offered a set of recommendations. They emphasized the active involvement of chapters in university events, especially those held outside the campus. The committee also advised on collaborative initiatives with schools and other sectors to conduct joint events and proposed the development of new event policies.
As the new headquarters of the Qatar University Alumni Association take place within the campus, it signals the association's commitment to fostering stronger ties within its network and with the broader community. The new building will serve as a hub for alumni activities, professional development, and collaborative efforts, fostering the growth and impact of the association.
