The College of Dental Medicine at Qatar University (QU), in cooperation with the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR), organized the 2nd IADR Qatar Section Annual Meeting and Research Symposium under the theme “Exploring Frontiers of Evidence-Based Research for Clinical Practice. Prof. Feras Alali, Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at QU, and many experts, attended the symposium from Qatar and beyond.
In his opening speech, Prof. Feras Alali, Associate Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies at the Health Sector of QU, stated, “In this symposium, we bring together experts and researchers to explore the latest evidence-based practices in dental medicine. We aim to foster meaningful collaborations that bridge the gap between research and clinical application, ultimately enhancing patient care. By focusing on rigorous methodologies and shared knowledge, we aim to advance the field and set new benchmarks for clinical excellence,"
Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at QU’s College of Dental Medicine and IADR consultant, Dr. Aalaa Daud, commented on the event, saying, “This conference stands as a testament to our collective commitment to advancing oral, dental, and craniofacial health through rigorous research and meaningful collaboration. Over the course of this symposium, we aim to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and clinical practice, focusing on the evidence-based application of groundbreaking research findings. Dental students are at the heart of this conference, providing them with a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research, present their research findings, learn from leading experts, and cultivate the skills and knowledge essential for shaping the future of the profession. Together, we explore innovations, share insights, and foster partnerships that will propel the field forward and improve outcomes for patients around the world.”
Dr. Khalifa Al-Ansari Chairman Hamad Dental Services, said, “I would like to thank the College of Dental Medicine at QU for hosting this remarkable event. I also want to acknowledge the dedicated faculty and staff at QU. I think they are the soldiers behind most of the achievements in our field. Collaboration between institutions like QU and HMC is vital, creating a bi-directional relationship where we received students to educate and train in Hazm Mebaireek Dental Academic Center (HMDAC). Such partnerships are essential to advancing dental education and healthcare excellence in Qatar.”
The symposium included many sessions; Prof. David Herrera, Chair of Periodontology at the University of Madrid, presented the first session. During the session, the importance of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines was emphasized, particularly in addressing peri-implant
diseases. The presentation highlighted the evolution from expert-based decisions to evidence-driven approaches in healthcare, underpinned by systematic reviews and rigorous methodologies. Special focus was given to the European Federation of Periodontology’s guidelines for managing peri-implant diseases, showcasing their adaptability to local contexts. The discussion underscored the role of guidelines in improving clinical outcomes, ensuring patient-centered care, and fostering global standards in dentistry.
