Qatar University (QU) Press participated in the 32nd edition of the Doha International Book Fair, held under the “Rise through Reading” Theme. The fair took place from 12 June to 21 June, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). QU Press House showcased a wide and diverse range of academic, cultural, and scientific publications. During the fair, representatives from the Press house participated in a seminar about “the future vision of the publishing industry in the Arab world,” organized by the fair's organizers. They also took part in several discussion sessions organized by the Qatari Forum in the Cultural Salon at the fair. Additionally, the Press house held book launch events and signings in its pavilion.
Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al-Sowaidi, Director of QU Press, stated, “The Press House aims to support Qatar University's vision and achieve its mission of excellence in research and education by following recognized scientific publishing standards and attracting competent authors in various fields to meet the needs of the university and the community.”
Dr. Al-Sowaidi added, “During the fair, the Press House announced its support for the clean environment and sustainability projects, featuring a solar-powered car allocated as a mobile library.”
In her remarks, Prof. Sheikha Al-Thani, Acting Head of the Marketing and Sales Department at QU Press, pointed out that the participation of the press house in the exhibition comes for the second year in a row and that this year's participation witnessed the launch of several books in various fields. She emphasized the importance of book fairs in promoting cultural exchange and highlighting the value of books and their vital role in raising awareness, development, and education. She also praised the timing of organizing the exhibition in June, following the completion of school and university exams, allowing visitors and interested individuals the opportunity to communicate and exchange experiences and knowledge.
During the book fair, the Director of QU Press participated in a seminar titled “The Future Vision of the Publishing Industry in the Arab Region and the World,” held on the Doha International Book Fair's stage. In her speech, she discussed the key standards followed by the QU Press, highlighting their commitment to excellence in scientific research and education. She highlighted that the Press house adheres to the highest standards of evaluation and production to achieve this goal. Furthermore, QU Press attracts distinguished authors from various fields, and she emphasized the importance of recruiting specialized experts to crystallize the press house's vision in serving the university, society, and achieving Qatar's national vision for 2030.
The cultural salon at the book fair hosted the launch of several new publications by QU Press. These included the translation of “Qatar on the Arabian Gulf” by historian Dr. Mohammed Harb Farzat, “An Introduction to Law: An Analytical Study of Legal Theory and Rights in the Light of Qatari Law” by Dr. Mohammad Ammar Torkmanie Ghazal, “Iran's Policy in the Gulf during the Reign of Nasser al-Din Shah Qajar 1848-1896” by Dr. Mustafa Aqil Al-Khatib, and “Principles of International Law: State of Qatar Special Edition” by Dr. Noortmann, Math, and Faisal Misfer Al-Hababi.
The participation of QU Press in this year's edition consisted of eleven new publications. Among them is the translation of the book “Qatar on the Arabian Gulf” by the historian Dr. Mohammed Harb Farzat, translated by Mr. Taoufik Kouki. Additionally, there is the translation of the book “Social Science Research in the Arab World and Beyond: A Guide for Students, Instructors, and Researchers” by Mark Tessler, translated by Dr. Hassan Ahjij, “History and Narrative Imagination in Arab Novels.”
The QU Press also launched other books such as “Principles of Commercial Law (Business Transactions, Merchant, Store),” “A Concise Guide to Sources of Obligation,” “Iran's Policy in the Arabian Gulf,” “Principles of Urban Planning: Academic Studies in Urban Planning,” “Dysphagia (Swallowing Difficulty) in Adults: The Role of Speech and Language Specialists in Assessment and Treatment,” “Original Proprietary Rights in Qatari Civil Law;” and “Corporate Reputation and Its Role in Building the Brand.” Furthermore, QU Press announced the launch of its first publication in the introductions Series, the book “An Introduction to Aviation Engineering and Technology” by Dr. Engineer Haider Salman.
