    I am Discovering Materials (High)

    Description
This track aims to introduce students to diverse topics in materials science through hands-on activities through inquiry-based and problem solving-based learning approaches. The courses under this track are designed in line with the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education curriculum. The pedagogies are designed to follow a unique structure, where a handful of activities lead to a design project, thereby driving the students to lead to innovations. Through these activities, students learn about the different concepts of material science via investigation and research. During the design project challenge, students are enlightened to innovate, brainstorm, design, test, build, analyze, and re-build the product that implements a solution for an existing problem presented to them. Some of the mind-blowing innovations were light-trash sorter and biodegradable plant pots. Students are also encouraged to establish contributions towards the STEM fields for the development of the industrial sector and thereby, its influence on the economy. They are also enlightened to contribute towards the growth of the scientific community in Qatar. Likewise, the students are motivated to participate in various inter-school competitions as hosted by the program to exhibit their work to the community and be recognized in the global innovator's network.
    Objectives
    • Students learn about inventing materials along with the skills of problem-solving, expression/presentation, critical thinking, and design thinking skills.
    • Depending on the workshop, students acquire respective scientific knowledge to come up with a novel product/idea/prototype.
    • They are acquainted with steps of the engineering design process through hands-on activities i.e. Define The problem; Brainstorm possible solutions/ Research Ideas / Explore potentiality for your engineering design project; Establish criteria and constraints; Consider substitutes; Select an approach; Develop a design proposal; Make a model Or prototype.
    Student Benefits
    • Participation certificates
    • Inter-group and inter-school competitions to enhance students’ presentation/ expression skills via oral/poster presentations, filming art in science, social media contests incorporating photography or videography.
    • Winners receive awards
    • Opportunities to participate in national and international competitions
