QU Summer Research Internship Program 2025

Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC) is excited to launch the 7th cycle Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP) 2025, reinforcing Qatar University’s commitment to research excellence and youth empowerment. Designed to provide immersive, hands-on experiences, SRIP equips students with essential analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills while fostering a dynamic research culture. Open to both undergraduate and graduate students, the program offers structured training in research methodologies, laboratory techniques, and advanced skill development. Participants can engage in three specialized tracks, each tailored to enhance their research competencies, drive innovation, and prepare them for leadership roles in academia, industry, and beyond.
    1. Track 1: Outcomes-directed Research Track This track, launched and carried out since 2022, engages students in acquiring knowledge in research methodology and culminating the project with tangible outcomes including Intellectual Property and Scholarly publications. This track will invite Technology integrated multidisciplinary proposals from internship mentors who are willing to engage students with outcomes-directed research with targeted TRL/SRL measures. This track will witness the participation of faculty and researchers from all QU colleges apart from the research centers in QU. The students will participate in a two-week research methodology course integrated with practical research experiments, followed by an expandable timeline for research culmination to achieve the program's outcomes.
    2. Track 2: Research and training focused: This track offers specialized training for students by faculty mentors in specific domains of research areas. This track will focus on enhancing essential competencies, including but not limited to advanced laboratory techniques, data collection, data analysis, documentation, and technical communication. By participating in this track, students will not only contribute to meaningful skill development but also develop a strong foundation of transferable skills, positioning them for future success in academia and industry.
    3. Track 3: External projects (Government/semi-government/ private stationed) This track is exclusively for performing research training in different global and local corporate entities.

Key Program Takeaways for the Students

    • Tangible outcomes like Scholarly publications, Conference presentations as well as Intellectual Property (specifically for track 1)
    • Research career exploration
    • Professional development with scholarly outcomes
    • Understanding the significance of real-world research and analysis
    • Instilling confidence and competencies in research
    • Competitive advantage in the job market

An evaluation will be performed on track 1 projects’ performance based on the preset rubric to choose the best projects under 4 main categories. The table below will provide details about the categories.

    CategoryRecognition
Energy and EnvironmentBest research project will be recognized

    Eligibility Criteria for Research Mentors:

    • Research Mentor can be a Faculty member, or a Researcher (including RAs and Post-docs) associated with a Faculty member.
    • Research Mentors may apply to any of the tracks depending upon their choice.
    • Research Mentors participating in Track 1 should ensure that the internship proposal meets the following criteria:
      • Applicants from STEM colleges need to integrate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) aspects in their proposals.
      • Applicants from non-STEM colleges will have to integrate either Mathematics or Technology aspects within their research proposals.
      • The internship proposal must offer research in real-world experiences that culminate outcomes with distinct TRLs/SRLs.
      • The internship proposal should also reflect the scope to present the research outcomes in the form of posters at the QU Annual Research Forum Exhibition and The Youth Research Forum.
      • Mentors are encouraged to publish their research outcomes in peer-reviewed international journals. This will add value to the mentor’s performance and will be highly appreciated.

This year, the internship program is being proposed to run from 25 May 2025 to 26 June 2025, spanning four weeks of active participation with a one-week break in observance of Eid ul Adha. (Refer Qatar University Academic Calender)
